Moritz Jenz has left VfL Wolfsburg to complete a transfer to Swiss champions Young Boys Bern. The 27-year-old defender signed for the Swiss side after failing to make a single 2. Bundesliga appearance for Wolfsburg in the current campaign.
The move materialized with surprising speed. Moritz Jenz told reporters: "Vor zwei Tagen habe ich von dieser Möglichkeit erfahren und fand es direkt super, dann ging es sehr schnell." The transfer was possible because the summer transfer window closes one week later in Switzerland than in Germany. For Wolfsburg's sporting director Pirmin Schwegler, the decision was understandable. "Wir bedanken uns bei Moritz für seine Zeit in Wolfsburg." Schwegler said.
Moritz Jenz joined VfL Wolfsburg from French side FC Lorient in 2023. In total, the centre-back made 46 competitive appearances for the club, scoring two goals. He was loaned to Bundesliga rivals Mainz 05 for the 2024/25 season. Upon his return, he found himself out of favour under coach Ralph Hasenhüttl this term. His absence coincides with a period where Wolfsburg's defence has been solid. In the first four matches of the 2. Bundesliga, the team has conceded only six goals while scoring ten themselves.
Jenz's departure creates space in VfL Wolfsburg's defensive roster. The club can now proceed with a slightly leaner squad for the challenges ahead. The current squad list shows a well-stocked centre-back department that can manage without him. The Wolves sit in fourth place in the table with eight points from four games. They are just four points behind leaders Hertha BSC. Their recent form, with the sequence DWWD, provides confidence.
Focus now shifts entirely to on-pitch matters. The next fixture is this coming Saturday, September 12, 2026, with an away trip to face FC St. Pauli, who currently occupy 15th place. A win could increase the pressure on the teams above them. The squad's goal difference of +4, with ten scored and six conceded, is a positive foundation to build upon.
The transfer of Moritz Jenz is now complete. VfL Wolfsburg's next competitive match is on September 12, 2026, in Hamburg.
