VfL Wolfsburg has appointed Dieter Hecking as the new managing director of sports. The 61-year-old signed a two-year contract until 2028 and will be responsible for both men's and women's football as well as the academy. Hecking, who previously served as sports director at 1. FC Nürnberg, takes over from Peter Christiansen, whose position has been vacant since March. Despite his efforts, Hecking was unable to prevent VfL's relegation to the 2. Bundesliga. Sebastian Rudolph, the chairman of the VfL supervisory board, spoke positively about Hecking's return and emphasized his identification with the club. Hecking himself stated that the relegation still weighs on him, and he looks forward to the challenges ahead. His first task will be to find a new head coach, as Tim Walter is not available.
