VfL Wolfsburg presents Tobias Strobl as new head coach. The 38-year-old switches from 3rd division club SC Verl to the Mittelland Canal. Strobl led Verl to sixth place in the 3rd division last season. He will receive a contract with VfL until 2028. VfL will inform about the composition of the new coaching team shortly. "The exchange with Dieter (Hecking) and Pirmin (Schwegler) was outstanding from the first moment. I immediately felt that it fits and the task at VfL Wolfsburg is something special. It really excites me to be part of it and build something new here", Strobl is quoted in a VfL statement. Strobl follows Dieter Hecking, who was promoted to sports director after losing the relegation against SC Paderborn and is now looking for his own successor. Alexander Blessin from FC St. Pauli was long considered a favorite. However, Strobl was also linked to Arminia Bielefeld and Karlsruher SC. VfL Wolfsburg is after nearly 30 years in the German elite league last week relegated. The VfL managed to finish in the Bundesliga before FC St. Pauli and 1. FC Heidenheim, but lost the relegation against SC Paderborn, who will play in the top division again from August. VfL Wolfsburg is considered one of the big favorites for promotion due to its large budget.
