VfL Wolfsburg have loaned goalkeeper Kamil Grabara to Juventus. The 27-year-old Polish international will spend the season in Italy.
The loan deal includes a purchase option for Juventus. Grabara originally joined Wolfsburg from FC Copenhagen two years ago for a fee of 13.5 million euros and was under contract until 2028. Following relegation to the 2. Bundesliga, sealed by a 17th-place finish in the final 2025 table, the keeper had fallen to fourth choice.
Why Grabara is leaving Wolfsburg
His performances for the Wolves stagnated last season. The club ended the Bundesliga campaign with just 21 points and a negative goal difference of 26. Internally, Grabara's attitude was also perceived as arrogant by some teammates. Sporting director Pirmin Schwegler (39) and club boss Dieter Hecking (61) therefore saw no future for him in the squad. Before the decisive relegation second leg on May 25, Grabara had already cleared his house in the Ehmen district of Wolfsburg and was recently staying at the Ritz-Carlton.
What the goalkeeper situation looks like now
Grabara's departure resolves a squad issue, at least temporarily. As the new number one, VfL have already signed Timon Wellenreuther. The 30-year-old arrived from Feyenoord Rotterdam for one million euros. Behind him are the experienced Pavao Pervan (38) and the young talent Jakub Zielinski (18). The current team composition can be viewed on our squad page.
What the move means for Grabara
At Juventus, the six-time Polish international will compete for the starting spot. The incumbent goalkeeper is 29-year-old Guglielmo Vicario. Media Grabara will initially be the number two. For the keeper, the move is a chance to re-establish himself in a top league and revive his career.
What's next for Wolfsburg
The loan provides the club with financial breathing room. Whether Grabara returns to Wolfsburg or is signed permanently could be decided in the coming weeks. The German transfer window closes in one week. The club's focus is now fully on promotion. The disappointing previous season, which ended 55 points behind champions Bayern Munich, needs to be forgotten quickly. The upcoming tasks are listed in our fixtures calendar. The sporting leadership under Schwegler must rebuild the team after relegation and stabilize a defense that conceded 65 goals in 29 games.
