VfL Wolfsburg officially announced on Monday that Dženan Pejčinović (21) is moving to VfB Stuttgart. The young striker signed a contract until 2031 and will earn roughly €2.5 million per season, while Stuttgart pays a €25 million transfer fee to the Bundesliga relegated side.

Losing Pejčinović means Wolfsburg parts with a promising U21 international, who contributed to a season tally of 45 goals scored and 69 conceded - a -24 goal difference. Despite this, the attack remains a key focus as the team recorded only 1W‑2D‑2L in its last five matches. The coach and sporting director now need to find a replacement to fill the midfield gap.

Stuttgart sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth (47) called the deal a "great signal" and said the club had been working on the transfer internally from early on. He noted that Pejčinović will instantly be a valuable offensive option while still having room to develop. The 21‑year‑old expressed huge excitement and sees the move as a step toward a top club and Champions League participation.

Wolfsburg finished the 2025 season in 16th place with 29 points, 7 wins, 8 draws and 19 losses. Their most recent result was a 2‑1 loss to SC Paderborn 07 on May 25 2026. Currently sidelined is Bence Dárdai, adding further strain to squad planning. Selling Pejčinović could free up funds to target specific reinforcements for the upcoming campaign.

Wolfsburg supporters face a new challenge: without Pejčinović, the team must restructure its attacking options. At the same time, they hope the transfer revenue will be invested wisely to end the relegation battle. The coming weeks will reveal whether Wolfsburg can plug the hole before the new season begins.
