VfL Wolfsburg has loaned Algerian international striker Mohammed Amoura to French Ligue 1 side OGC Nice. The 26-year-old moves to France for one year.
The deal includes a mandatory purchase option for the French club. This option is valued in the double-digit million euro range. OGC Nice will also cover the attacker's full salary for the loan period. For Wolfsburg, this is a short-term transfer solution to give Amoura playing time and increase his market value.
Meanwhile, the Lower Saxony club has made a solid start to the 2026/27 2. Bundesliga season. After three matchdays, they sit in third place with seven points. Their record shows two wins and one draw with a goal difference of 6:2. This puts them just two points behind leaders 1. FC Nürnberg. Their recent form reads WWD. The next fixture is a home match against fifth-placed 1. FC Magdeburg on December 5th.
Mohammed Amoura was not a permanent fixture in the plans at Wolfsburg during last season's struggles. The striker made 61 Bundesliga appearances for the club, scoring 18 goals and providing 17 assists. However, the offensive player received two suspensions during the relegation season. The loan to Nice is intended to give him regular game time in one of Europe's top leagues.
Amoura himself spoke positively about the move. "I know Ligue 1 and OGC Nice well," said the Algerian. "I have many friends who have played here. I know last season wasn't easy, but I also know there are still big ambitions." His new sporting director at OGC Nice, Maurice Cohen, emphasized the club's appeal: "He had numerous offers, and the fact he chose us shows we remain an attractive option."
Amoura's departure alters the personnel situation in VfL Wolfsburg's attack. The club must now ensure offensive production with its remaining strikers. The current yield of six goals in three league games is a promising start. The full overview of the squad is available on the squad page.
Wolfsburg's sporting management has chosen a flexible path with this loan. If Amoura impresses in France, Nice can sign him permanently and Wolfsburg receives a considerable transfer fee. If the move does not yield the desired success, the engagement ends in summer 2027 and the player returns. This structure provides planning security.
The Wolves have settled well into the second tier following Bundesliga relegation. Third place in the standings after three games shows their ambitions for a direct promotion. Defensive stability, with only two goals conceded, provides a solid foundation. The two-point gap to Nürnberg is minimal.
The coming weeks will show if the team can consolidate its strong early form. The squad must compensate for Amoura's absence. The next challenge is a home match against strong side 1. FC Magdeburg on December 5th, 2026.
