VfL Wolfsburg booked their place in the second round of the DFB-Pokal with a comprehensive 6-0 (3-0) win at second-division side SC Sand. In front of around 1,200 spectators, the Bundesliga side demonstrated their superiority from the outset and rarely allowed the hosts a look-in.
Ella Peddemors opened the scoring in the 18th minute. Svenja Huth added a second eight minutes later before Camilla Küver made it 3-0 in the 35th minute. Peddemors netted her second goal immediately after the restart, with Huth following suit in the 53rd minute. Lena Lattwein applied the finishing touch with the sixth goal in the 64th minute.
SC Sand goalkeeper Lucie Schlimé prevented an even heavier defeat with several saves. "Prevented a higher defeat for the second-division side," Schlimé said after the match. The hosts' best chance came from a post hit by Anny-Kerim Lindland in the 16th minute. Wolfsburg's Martina Tufekovic was only called into action late on, saving a long-range effort from Maria Agerholm Olsen from the centre circle.
The cup success provides a confidence boost for the upcoming challenges in the 2. Bundesliga. Wolfsburg currently sit 4th in the table with 11 points from six matches. The next test is away at second-placed 1. FC Nürnberg on 10 October. Referee Selina Wenzel blew for full-time after four minutes of added time.
